About Us

Located on Scotland’s beautiful Clyde coast, Wemyss Bay is home to McCaskie’s – quality butchers and purveyors of the finest Scotch beef, Scotch lamb, and Specially Selected Scotch pork since 1935.

Now in its third generation of family ownership, the business is run by Nigel Ovens and his wife Helen (a farmer’s daughter), with the continued support of Nigel’s mother, Elizabeth, daughter of the founder, Mearns T. McCaskie. Over the years, the business has grown steadily, and in February 2018 the family and team were honoured to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to officially open their state-of-the-art production facility, located directly behind the shop.

What hasn’t changed since 1935 is the McCaskie family’s unwavering commitment to sourcing the highest quality livestock and producing exceptional meat products. That dedication has earned McCaskie’s a long list of accolades over the years – and 2025 is already shaping up to be one of the most successful yet.

When our James Pirie-inspired steak pie was awarded Gold, the stakes felt high… Could we take the top title ourselves?
