Origin Molise, Italy
Grape Aglianico 15%, Montepulciano 70%, Trebbiano 15%
Molise is the second-smallest region in Southern Italy, bordering Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania and Puglia. Its wines began to gain rec- ognition in the 1980s with the creation of the Biferno and Pentro di Isernia DOCs. The Biferno is a Montepulciano and Aglianico blend, the former from the Adriatic coast and the latter from the warmer inland areas. The wine is typical of the appellation, bold and powerful, with a real rustic warmth to it. Recently it received glowing reviews from writers like Jancis Robinson and Olly Smith. We are adding a white Biferno to the immensely successful Riser- va Red. It will be with us for the end of May and it is made with the typical white grape variety of the area: Bombino Bianco. Expect a rustic white wine with fruit and some structure!
Traditional vinification with 10-12 days of maceration at a controlled temperature of 25°-26°C. The wine is aged for 18 months in large oak barrels, and the for 18 months in stainless steel tanks.
Purply red colour that will develop to garnet with age. The bou- quet is complex and intense with hints of blackberry jam. On the palate the wine is velvety and harmonious with pleasant, firm tannins.
